Qualities That Make Up a High Level Tennis Training Program

  • Monday, December 28th, 2009 at 9:19 am

Almost every tennis player in the top 100 was either coached by a member of the family who was a professional tennis coach or player themselves. Or they went to a junior tennis academy.

Besides good coaching, training facilities and environment, the most important thing is to bring the best tennis players together and have them train and compete against each other day in and day out. The other important aspect is an individualized and intense coaching program.

Most of the Federations do not provide such kind of training for their players. The only Tennis Federation that brings all the good tennis players together in one site is the French Tennis Federation. And that is the reason why France is the most successful nation producing their own” players.

High quality junior tennis academies bring the best players and the most dedicated coaches together. The coaches should focus their attention to not more than 4 players and they should live together or close by their players. A good tennis training program should be divided into 3 or 4 macrocycles a year. In each one of these macrocycles there are 3 different Tennis Training Phases. These training phases relate to the different aspects of the game and to the different contents of the strength and conditioning plan as well as to the tournament schedule.

The first phase of the tennis training starts right after the recovery stage and the 1-3 weeks of basic endurance conditioning. This conditioning program may be monitored with Polar heartrate monitors and could also be completed by the players while they are back home with their parents. The data could then be transfered to the conditioning coach via email and he or she could provide the players new training plans in the same way.

With these new technologies the tennis players are able to go back home and still be under proper training supervision. The other tennis training phases should follow up to the first tournament phase. After the first two tournament weeks, there should be a follow up training week in which players will correct their weaknesses that ocured in those tournaments. At last comes the most important phase, the main tournaments of the macrocycle. After the end of these tournaments, the players take a two week recovery and start with the next macrocycle.

Being successful is all about having the right attitude. Developing the winning attitude, that all champions have, is the first step on your way to success. It comes way before learning the techniques and tactics of the game.

One of the most important character qualities is to never, ever give up. The only way to fail for sure is to quit. So, if tennis is the one thing you really love then never stop before you reach the top! Visit the Hardy Hesse Tennis Academy, a high-performance Florida tennis academy.
