Information on the Algarve Climate & Temperatures
The Algarve temperatures are one of the highest in Europe with lots of sunshine throughout the year. There is little or no rainfall in the Algarve in the summer with what little there is falling for the most part in the winter. The Algarve is hilly, but traversed with rich valleys. Its highest point is the mountain range of Monchique, with a maximum altitude of 906m (Peak of the Foia).
In April and May the Faro temperatures range is between 13 and 22 degrees celcius and in July and August temperatures are between 20 and 28 degrees celcius. There are an average of 7, 6, 8 and 5 wet days per month in January thru to April with no wet days in July or August.
At night the west is warmer in the winter than the eastern Algarve and in the summer cooler. This is caused by the moderating effect of the Atlantic ocean. In the western Algarve temperatures are generally cooler in the day in summer and warmer in winter than in the eastern Algarve.
The average temperatures in Sagres in May and June ranges between 12 and 25 degrees celcius and in October and November it decreases to between 11 and 23 degrees. The Costa Vicentina ends in the small town of Sagres, where, under the guidance of Prince Henry, the epic Portuguese maritime discoveries had begun 500 years earlier.
