Cycle Sharing: Get Exercise Cheap and Help The Planet
Many colleges around the nation have seen the congestion that has been caused from all of the cars driven by their college students. The roads are congested and the parking lots are full with many people thinking that there just is no solution. The thing is though there is a perfect solution out there and there are some college campuses taking advantage of it. Bike sharing programs are meant to help get people out of their cars and onto bikes. Not only does this free up the problem of the parking situation, it saves space on the road, it keeps pollution down, and as a bonus it keeps students in shape. The student does not have to worry about maintaining the bike and buying bike parts, and can focus on studying.
The idea is if the campus gives a student a bike to use then they are allowed to make full and total use of it if they promise to keep their car at home with the parents. With the popularity of bike sharing programs, more and more schools are stepping up and following in order to make overdue changes in the way their school traffic is handled. Sadly though, there are some places that are forced to shut down their bike sharing programs because of theft. It only takes a few rotten people to spoil it for everyone.
Thankfully though there are still many places that are able to hold onto the idea that a bike sharing program has its place. With all of the benefits that come from bike sharing programs, it will probably be no time at all before most of the schools out there take part in such programs. With all of the schools taking notice at how beneficial bike sharing can be, there are major cities out there that are taking on the idea of trying to save space and the planet with bike sharing programs.
When it comes to providing such services to the general public, the fees are handled by being collected annually. The yearly fee really is not all that expensive as for example, DC users are able to pay only forty dollars a year and have unlimited access to a bike at any bike sharing station. With all things considered, this is a relatively cheap way to get from point A to point B while keeping in shape and helping to make our planet a better place to live.
As time moves on, hopefully more and more cities will jump on the bandwagon and get bike sharing programs and stations set up. Of course, the purchase of all of the bikes, locks, gps tracking devices, and advertisement costs a lot of money so it may take a little while for the cities with less to play with in their yearly budget to catch on. The bikes certainly will not be fitted with high end feature such as Shimano Yumeya bike parts, although the cycles often cost much more than average because of all the anti-theft bike parts on them.
